It is also known as a multifunctional printer, or multifunctional device (MFD). A multifuncional printer is able to do many functions. Including printing not just paper but also photographs, scanning, and copying and even faxing. A multifunctional printer does not have to do ALL of these things in order to be considered “multifunctional,” however. Some just print and scan and copy, for instance. The Canon PIMXA MG8120, for instance, prints photos, scans, and copies. It does not fax.

First, they save you room. You don’t need a place to put the fax machine, your copy machine, and your printer now. They would be all together. It’s just combined all in to one machine. And that’s what a MFD is.

Secondly, while some are large, the right ones can be little and succinct. And a lot of the newer ones are also slick, sharp, and good looking.

MFDs, or multifunction devices, in this instance printers, are cheaper to buy than buying all of the machines (i.e. photo printer, fax) separately.

I think that all in one printers are suitable for people who have home based businesses. There are several reasons for this. The first reason is that owning a small-scale company is a hectic endeavour. Doing lots of administrative tasks in the home can just be downright tiring! Therefore, owning a solid multifunctional printer can shrink the stress and chaos of the home business workday. It can make the day more manageable, and more organized, which is priceless.

Of course, if you are a neat freak or really organized, then having separate machines can work too. But for the average person, spending money on one machine is the answer. Plus, it is cheaper and just more economical overall this way.

The all in one printer does it all – scanning, copying, faxing, and photo printing. Some models, like the Canon PIXMA MG8120, do not have faxing, and other models make faxing optional. However, anyone who has to do these functions once a week or even once a month would find these devices well worth the money. In other words, with an all in one printer, or multifunctional device, whatever you want to call it, it is money well spent.

Dell, Canon, and HP all manufacture all in one printers.
